Tejas Light Fighter Model on Display

: Dec 8, 2022 - : 12:27 pm

The Indian defence industry is showcasing a model of the Tejas light fighter at the ongoing Vietnam Defence 2022.

The India Showcases Tejas Light Fighter light fighter is manufactured by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) and is a fourth generation single-engine, single-pilot light fighter aircraft. India set out to develop a fighter line like the Tejas to replace the outdated MiG-21 fleet, along with creating a premise for the country’s development of military aviation industry.

Tejas is the smallest and lightest of current supersonic fighter aircraft. It can conduct missions at sea, including attacking enemy naval and air bases. Tejas’ combat radius is about 500 km; the aircraft is capable of carrying 3.5 tons of weapons with eight pylons allowing it to carry different types of missiles.

The Tejas LCA is developed by the Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO), a defence research agency under the Indian Ministry of Defence, specializing in the implementation of research and development programs for new weapons systems for the Indian army, as well as for export.

DRDO is also showcasing some of its most advanced technologies in the fields of aviation, radar, sonar, missiles, early warning systems and torpedoes. Weapon systems introduced in DRDO’s booth include Light fighter/jet trainer Tejas Mk-1; Airborne Early Warning and Control System – AEW&C; Friend or foe (IFF) system; Short-range surface-to-air missile – Akash; Air-to-air missile beyond sight – Astra; Nag anti-tank missile (HELINA) launched from a helicopter; Advanced Light Torpedo – TAL; Integrated sonar on submarines (SMS-X); Hull mounted sonar system for surface ships (HMS-X2) and 3D Radar – Revathi.

The Indian Embassy in Vietnam shared that the two countries have been sharing a long-standing friendship and that DRDO’s participation at the exhibition will further strengthen the relationship between the two countries, besides opening up opportunities for new areas of cooperation.
