India and South Korea plan to develop defence industrial collaboration through a new roadmap.
The Defence Ministers of India Rajnath Singh and his South Korean counterpart Jeong Kyeong-doo – exchanged a “roadmap for defence industries co-operation”.
The roadmap lists “a number of possible areas of co-operation including research and development (R&D)”. The plan encompasses activities such as R&D, production, testing, and quality assurance across military air, land, and sea domains.
“We recognise the influence of Artifical Intelligence and digital technology in defence sector. The theme of DefExpo-2020 is ‘Digital Transformation of Defence’. India and Republic of Korea are ready to leverage mutual strengths in digital application and other advance technologies,” Minister Singh said.
For South Korea, India is the world’s second-largest buyer of weapons having spent US$13.9 billion in 2018.
“I look forward to investment by RoK companies in Indian defence corridors. The Defence Corridors present excellent opportunity for RoK industries to establish their manufacturing units, benefit from the skilled & economical labour force, natural resources and tailored incentives,” he added.
