Our Bureau - : Nov 13, 2023 - : 4:07 am

India is showcasing its indigenously developed Tejas light combat aircraft at the airshow for the second time. The aircraft is part of an Indian Air Force (IAF) contingent which also includes the Sarang Helicopter Display Team.

While the Tejas is part of both the static and aerial displays at the Show, the Sarang team will be displaying its formation aerobatics skills. Both aircraft types participated in the flypasts during the opening display.

The Tejas aircraft on static display is being shown with precision weapons from EDGE Group’s Al Tariq division.

The IAF has showcased India’s indigenous aerospace capabilities by displaying the aircraft at various international events including LIMA-2019 at Malaysia, Dubai Air Show-2021, Sri Lanka Air Force anniversary celebrations in 2021, Singapore Air Show- 2022 and Aero India Shows from 2017 to 2023. While it had already participated in exercises with foreign air forces domestically, Ex-Desert Flag in the United Arab Emirates in March 2023 was the Tejas’ maiden exercise on foreign soil.

In February 2021, the IAF placed orders for 73 LCA Tejas Mk-1A fighter aircraft and 10 LCA Tejas Mk-1 Trainer aircraft valued at approximately US$5.5 billion. Deliveries of the LCA Mk-1A are expected to commence in February 2024.

The Tejas Mk-1 completed seven years of service in the IAF in July 2023.
