India’s OIS Aerospace Ties Up With Italian Firms

: Mar 14, 2014 - : 9:56 pm

OIS Aerospace, a newly formed Indian firm has tied up with two Italian companies to primarily undertake manufacturing of aircraft components, maintenance and upgrading airplanes.
OIS AeroSpace has entered into a strategic relationship with Magnaghi Aeronautica, the manufacturer of Sky Arrow aircraft, to make their platform and other aviation products as its original equipment manufacturer (OEM) in India.
“The MRO  sector is expected to sustain significant growth driven by accelerated replacement cycle of older aircraft with newer machines, both in civil and defense establishments.
And OIS AeroSpace is geared to service both civil and military aerospace segments,” says Bimal Sareen, director at OIS, tells Asian Defence and Diplomacy.
For the first time, the Indian air force has sought the help of private companies in overhauling its fighter aircraft MiG-29 and its light transport aircraft, the AN-32. OIS Aerospace has responded to the Request for Information.
“OIS AeroSpace, formed early this month, is also a contender in the bid for upgradation of MiG 29 and repair and renovation of AN-32 aircraft equipment for IAF,” Sareen says.
Magnaghi Aeronautica is a leading company of the Magnaghi Group, an Italian leading manufacturer of aerospace equipment and parts, both in the defense and civilian fields.
The group incorporates Salver, manufacturer of primary and secondary structures for aeronautical applications, using advanced composite materials, metal sud (surface treatments) and Magnaghi Aircraft (SkyArrow). Sky Arrow is an all-composite, high-wing aircraft with tandem seating and pushing configuration. It was first introduced in 1992.
OIS has also tied up with another Italian company Gemelli for noise control and self protecting technologies as its OEM in India.
“As an initial part of our relationship, OIS AeroSpace will market, supply and maintain the communication equipment and systems for the Indian civil and military aerospace market, with a special focus on ground support applications,” Sareen says.
Gemelli is a leading company for the design and supply of on-board internal communication systems and ground support applications which assure clarity of communication in severe noise environmental conditions by utilizing the new wireless technology for communications ground to cockpit and also the possibility to create an internal wireless network in flight.
“Typical application is the winch operator able to talk with the pilot during his operation,” he says.
OIS is also planning more strategic alliances in the aerospace sector and is talking to several companies both in India and abroad.
