Indonesia AirAsia, the Indonesian associate carrier of Malaysian AirAsia, officially reopened its flight route from Jakarta to Kota Kinabalu on Tuesday (Feb. 6). This marks the airline’s first international route in 2024, providing an exclusive direct flight to Kota Kinabalu.

“Indonesia AirAsia is extending its flight connectivity for international routes. The opening of this route also signifies our support to the government in enhancing the relationship between Indonesia and Malaysia,” stated Capt. Wuri Septiawan, Director Flight Operations of Indonesia AirAsia, in Kota Kinabalu.

“This flight is anticipated to simplify access for tourists from Indonesia and Malaysia to visit and enjoy the most popular tourist destinations in each country, and of course, at affordable prices,” he added.

Kota Kinabalu becomes the airline’s fifth destination for direct flights from Jakarta to Malaysia, following the successful launches of Jakarta-Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta-Johor Bahru, Jakarta-Penang, and Jakarta-Kuching routes.

“We are delighted to welcome Indonesia AirAsia’s inaugural flight to Kota Kinabalu. This initiative not only strengthens the relationship between the countries but also opens up new opportunities in the tourism, cultural, and economic sectors,” said Datuk Christina Liew, Sabah Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment. “With this new route, we hope to welcome more Indonesian tourists to enjoy and experience the unique attractions and charming natural beauty of Sabah.”

Indonesia AirAsia’s flight designated QZ 526 is scheduled to depart Jakarta’s Soekarno–Hatta International Airport (CGK) at 12.15 WIB (UTC+7) to land at Kota Kinabalu International Airport (KKI) at 15.55 MST (UTC+8). The return flight designated QZ 527 will depart Kinabalu at 16.35 MST, to land in Jakarta at 18.35 WIB.

The route will be served thrice weekly, every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday.
