Indonesia to Open 264 Pioneering Flight Routes in 2024

Yulian Ardiansyah - : Jan 5, 2024 - : 1:06 am

The Indonesian Ministry of Transportation (Kementerian Perhubungan / Kemenhub) has announced that they will open 264 new pioneering flight routes for passengers in 2024. There will also be another 44 new pioneering cargo flight routes and one subsidized air transport route. These flights will connect remote and hard-to-reach areas in the country’s interior to facilitate rapid development in those areas.

“Indonesia is an archipelagic country, there are many remote, frontier, disadvantaged, and border areas that still really need transportation services, especially air because other modes of transportation are not yet accessible,” said the ministry’s Director General of Air Transportation, Maria Kristi Endah Murni in Jakarta on Thursday (Jan. 4).

“The presence of this pioneering air transport is expected to boost the regional economy and provide stability, resilience, and security to the country, especially in those areas,” She added.

She also stated that this new pioneering flight program was initiated by the Directorate General of Air Transport through the Directorate of Air Transport, in cooperation with the Air Transport Enterprise (Badan Usaha Angkutan Udara / BUAU). Furthermore, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation will always supervise and monitor this program under applicable rules and laws.

“We will continue to coordinate with the Airport Authority Office and the Pioneering Flight Area Coordinator to always provide supervision regarding the safety and security aspects of the flight operations,” Maria said.

Six Indonesian aviation companies will serve these new routes: PT. ASI Pudjiastuti Aviation (Susi Air), PT. Asian One Air, PT. Nasional Global Aviasi, and PT. Smart Cakrawala Aviation (Smartaviation) will run pioneering flight routes for passengers, while PT. Cadik Nusantara Cargo, and PT. Mega Basana Nusantara will be responsible for pioneering cargo flights.
