The Indonesian Navy (TNI AL) launched two new Dorang-class patrol vessels in Serang, Banten province, on Friday (Jul. 12). Constructed by PT Caputra Mitra Sejati (PT CMS), a privately-owned shipbuilding company, the vessels have been named KRI Hampala (880) and KRI Lumba-Lumba (881).
“These ships will later strengthen the second and third fleets, especially at Navy Base XIII Tarakan and Navy Base XI Merauke,” stated the Chief of Staff of the Indonesian Navy, Admiral Muhammad Ali, during the launch ceremony.
PT CMS commenced the construction of these vessels in December 2022, following the launch of the first two - KRI Dorang (874) and KRI Bawal (875) - in March 2022. Also known as PC-60M type, KRI Hampala (880) and KRI Lumba-Lumba (881) are the final vessels in the series of six Dorang-class patrol craft ordered by the Indonesian Navy from local shipyards.
The Dorang-class patrol vessels have a displacement of approximately 520 tonnes and measure 61.2 metres in length, with a beam of 8.5 metres and a draft of 2.72 metres. Powered by two MTU 20V400M73 diesel engines, these ships can achieve a maximum speed of 24 knots and a cruising speed of 17 knots. Each vessel accommodates a crew of 55 personnel and has an endurance of eight days.
While each of the first four ships in this class were initially equipped with a Bofors 40 mm calibre main gun, KRI Hampala (880) and KRI Lumba-Lumba (881) will be mounted with Leonardo’s Marlin 40 Independent Line of Sight (ILOS) naval remote weapon systems instead. Additionally, all six Dorang-class patrol vessels are armed with two manually-operated 12.7 mm calibre heavy machine guns.
