Indra, EDGE Establish PULSE Joint Venture for Radar Systems

Our Bureau - : Dec 18, 2024 - : 11:09 pm

EDGE Group, a defence and advanced technology company, and Indra Sistemas, a multinational defence systems and IT company, have formalised a joint venture named PULSE. Based in Abu Dhabi, PULSE will focus on designing, developing, and manufacturing radar systems. The agreement marks the continuation of a partnership between the two companies, which began in 2023.

The formal signing took place in Madrid, attended by senior officials, including Spain’s Defence Minister Margarita Robles Fernández and EDGE’s Chairman, H.E. Faisal Al Bannai. The joint venture aims to strengthen local capabilities in radar production while addressing global market demands.

PULSE will focus on developing advanced radar technologies for air, land, and maritime applications. It will also handle the marketing and maintenance of these systems in international markets. Two companies will be formed under the venture: one majority-owned by Indra (50.01%) and the other by EDGE (50.01%). The former will oversee radar design, integration, and sales, while the latter will manage manufacturing at a new Abu Dhabi facility.

The joint venture aims to enhance the UAE's radar production capabilities, foster technology transfer, and train Emirati professionals. PULSE plans to employ experienced Indra staff alongside young Emirati graduates, engineers, and technical experts.

Faisal Al Bannai, EDGE’s Chairman, described the initiative as a "transformative milestone" that showcases innovation and technology transfer to address defence needs. Marc Murtra, Indra's Chairman, emphasised that the agreement strengthens Indra’s global presence and highlights the importance of advanced infrastructure in the UAE.

EDGE's Managing Director & CEO, Hamad Al Marar, highlighted PULSE as a symbol of collaboration to position the UAE as a hub for radar innovation. Indra's CEO, José Vicente de los Mozos, stressed the role of the new factory in Abu Dhabi in meeting the anticipated demand for cutting-edge radar systems.

The initiative will bolster local research and development through advanced laboratories, testing facilities, and collaboration with international experts. Specialised training programmes are planned to support the development of next-generation radar technologies.

PULSE is also expected to enjoy preferential rights for radar orders awarded to either EDGE or Indra, aligning with the goals of Indra’s "Leading the Future" strategic plan to enhance its international profile. The venture is expected to generate opportunities in emerging international markets while contributing to the UAE’s industrial and technological self-reliance.
