Indra has integrated the Spanish startup IDBOTIC into the Next Generation Weapon System/Future Combat Air System (NGWS/FCAS) programme, the most ambitious defence initiative in Europe, aimed at developing the future air combat system crucial for maintaining air superiority throughout the 21st century.
Established in 2019, IDBOTIC specialises in hardware encryption and authentication for Internet of Things (IoT) communications across defence, industry, and telecommunications sectors.
With this agreement, IDBOTIC collaborates with Indra to develop cutting-edge technologies that ensure a non-clonable identity for various sensors and systems within the NGWS/FCAS framework. The collaboration focuses on three parallel projects: securing hardware (Non-Clonable Physical Function), rapid distribution of private keys (Distributed Registration Technology), and integrating encryption processes resistant to post-quantum attacks (Fully Homomorphic Encryption).
Miguel García Moreno, FCAS Operations Director at Indra, stated, “With this agreement, we take a step forward in our commitment to incorporating any company, SME, startup, research centre or university now working on cutting-edge technologies into the NGWS/FCAS programme. We need all of them to be part of this great technological programme that will extend beyond 2040. We are confident that IDBOTIC’s level of expertise and exceptional knowledge in the field of cryptography and secure communications will help us achieve better results faster, and also contribute to strengthening European technological sovereignty.”
César Goyache, President of IDBOTIC, remarked, “Our joining the NGWS/FCAS programme allows us to make strides in our development of a dual technology that will find an enormous range of applications. We are proud to be collaborating with a great Spanish technology company such as Indra, which has opened its doors and facilitated our entry into what is undoubtedly one of the most exciting technology programmes underway in Europe today.”
IDBOTIC had previously collaborated with Indra on sustainability 4.0 projects, securing networks used by Indra’s virtual assistant. This system, employing mixed-reality glasses, enables maintenance personnel to connect remotely with experts for support. IDBOTIC will now contribute to the NGWS/FCAS programme, an initiative which, according to Miguel García Moreno, “will make Spain one of the most innovative countries in the world and will serve as a lever to structure the entire defence technology industry countrywide.”
