With the Covid-19 pandemic putting the spotlight on mission-critical solution portfolio for defence and security forces, Airbus is highlighting its capabilities in the field.
“Amid the evolving defence market landscape, the development of new technological innovations and solutions is imperative and should be encouraged to further strengthen UAE government and law enforcement agencies,” said Selim Bouri, Vice President and Head of Region MEA & Asia Pacific of Secure Land Communications at Airbus, in an interview on the sidelines of IDEX2021.
Putting a spotlight on its mission-critical solution portfolio for defence and security forces, the company has showcased a range of solutions, namely Tactilon Agnet 500 and 800, BorderCore, Manpack, Tactilon Dabat and TB4, at the show.
Bouri explained how the company’s communication and collaboration solutions are supporting first responders with their daily tasks, especially during crises such as the current pandemic, and other emergencies.
The Tactilon Agnet 500 and 800 collaboration platforms allow efficient end-to-end and encrypted group communication between public-safety personnel. The easy-to-use, flexible and scalable collaboration solutions enable video calls, multimedia messaging, and real-time location tracking. They also allow communication between smartphone users and Tetra radio users.
“The flexible and scalable Tactilon Agnet 500 is a smart collaboration platform for multimedia communication and data sharing, Bouri said. “Designed for mission-critical users, this push-to-talk and messaging service allows the transmission of data, video and voice between team members using different devices, including radio, smartphone, tablet and laptop,” he explained.
Both the Tactilon Agnet and the Tactilon Dabat are 5G-ready technologies that help organisations and agencies embrace the future of critical-communication technologies in a smooth, safe, and reliable manner without compromising the security, reliability, and quality of their communications, he added.
“Thanks to its hybrid roaming feature, Tactilon Dabat particularly allows users to communicate efficiently and seamlessly switch between Tetra or LTE network services, according to availability,” he noted.
Airbus’ BorderCore solution, which is designed to reinforce land, air and maritime border security measures, was also presented, for the first time ever at an event, at IDEX. “BorderCore offers high-quality surveillance support and is equipped with features designed to establish a real-time picture of a situation for threat assessment and fast and effective response time,” Bouri said.

Manpack, is a portable LTE tactical bubble embedded with Tactilon Agnet, and is specially designed for frontline Special Forces, Bouri said. Light, easy to use and fully operational in just a few minutes, the device enables voice and video services with a direct connection to the headquarters.
Apart from Tactilon Agnet 500, BorderCore and Manpack, Tactilon Agnet 800 solution and Tactilon Dabat, a smartphone and Tetra radio in-one, were also showcased at IDEX2021.
“In the current scenario, the demand is on the rise and there is more pressure on us to do our job in a better way…“and through our secure communication and collaboration technology, we aim to to provide extended support to public-safety officers, emergency teams and healthcare workers. We can help save lives and minimise risks,” he concluded.
