Jadara Developing New ATGM Systems

Our Bureau - : Nov 1, 2022 - : 7:12 am

As countries in the Middle East seek more medium-range anti-tank guided missiles (ATGMs), Jordan’s Jadara Equipment and Defence Systems has revealed that it is developing a new weapon with a range of 3.5 kilometers.

“We are developing a new ATGM called “Spear”, which can be operated in two control modes selectable by the operator, either in a manual control mode or in the second control mode,” says Khaled Jafar, vice-chairman of the company. “In the manual control mode, the operator can control the missile by continuous target tracking until the target is destroyed. In the second control mode using Fire and Forget technology; the system locks and tracks the target and guides the missile automatically until the target is destroyed. An advanced locking and tracking algorithm developed by Jadara, which is used for this purpose, is capable of achieving very high hit probability under severe weather and visibility conditions compared to similar systems from other manufacturers.

“Almost 60 per cent of the development work is and we expect to test the missile by the end of this year,” Jafar adds.

Due to market demand, another promising project under development by Jadara is the “TERMINATOR-FM”, a new beam riding ATGM, which has a caliber of 152mm, a range of up to 5000m, and is equipped with a tandem HEAT warhead capable of penetrating RHA after ERA up to 1000mm.

Jadara is also developing a new rocket-propelled grenade launcher “Raptor.” “The new RPG will have a range of 500 meters. This should also be ready by the last quarter of this year,” Jafar adds.

Referring to the rising demand for ATGMs in the region, Jafar said: “In the last several months countries in the Middle East and African regions have shown great interest in anti-tank missiles, both hand-held and vehicle mounted. Our customers are mainly the countries in the Middle East.”
