John Cockerill Unveils Anti-drone System

Following successful testing in Bulgaria, Belgian company John Cockerill Defense has brought its new anti-drone system, which can be fitted to all its medium-caliber turrets, to the eighth edition of the biennial event. The system can be installed on the Cockerill i-X (France) and Cockerill 1030 (Qatar), both of which are also on show at the Show.

Developed for its 30 mm turrets, the anti-drone system proved its effectiveness against drones of various sizes, some of which were flying at extremely high speeds. The AI-enabled ‘auto tracking’ system, capable of locking onto a target and anticipating its movements, was first tested and approved on land systems and has since been adapted for use in the air domain.

The multi-mission Cockerill 1030 is lightweight, precise, fully amphibious, and has high firepower. Lightweight (<1.5t with level 2 ballistic protection) and compact (1.5m ring diameter) with a capacity of up to 200 rounds, the system is equipped with 2 digital sighting systems, able to elevate to 70°, and can integrate a wide range of accessories such as AT missiles and rockets. In December, the Cockerill 1030 successfully completed a customer demonstration in Qatar, hitting the target with every shot at ranges of up to 2,500 meters, whether in static or moving mode.

The Cockerill i-X is the first-ever ground interceptor and is a breakthrough combat system for territorial defense interception, having the capability to engage and defeat incoming threats before they reach their objective.

“We are very proud to present our new anti-drone system, which meets a real need for international armed forces,” said Thierry Renaudin, President of John Cockerill Defense. “This system is the result of the ingenuity of our highly qualified teams, and further developments are expected between now and Eurosatory in Paris.”
