Korean Air Expands SAF Initiative with CEVA Logistics

Our Bureau - : Jun 27, 2024 - : 7:17 pm

Korean Air has announced an expansion of its cargo Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) programme in partnership with global logistics company CEVA Logistics. This development follows the airline’s customer-participation SAF initiative, which was launched in September 2023 to involve industry partners in sustainable practices.

The agreement was formalised during a signing ceremony at the Air Cargo China Conference 2024 in Shanghai. CEVA Logistics will support Korean Air’s use of SAF in its air cargo operations, with the airline sharing carbon emissions reductions with CEVA Logistics. Both companies are dedicated to promoting SAF usage and raising awareness about the importance of reducing carbon emissions in the logistics sector.

“We are pleased with the strong support from businesses and cargo customers for our SAF program,” said Jaedong Eum, Senior Vice President and Head of Cargo Business Division, Korean Air. “We will continue to build partnerships that enable our customers to actively and directly contribute to decarbonization efforts.”

Olivier Boccara, Air & Ocean Leader APAC at CEVA Logistics, commented, “One of CEVA’s key short-term levers to promote decarbonization hinges on collaboration. Through developing new solutions for our customers with airline partners like Korean Air, we are able to contribute to meaningful change in our industry.”

“Extending our SAF offering into the Asian market is a tangible step we can take now as we look ahead to more advances in fuels and other technologies to decarbonize air freight and the global supply chain.”

Korean Air is the first Korean flag carrier to use SAF on its Paris – Seoul Incheon route in February 2022. The airline also entered into an MOU with Shell in September 2022 to purchase SAF at major airports in the Asia Pacific and the Middle East from 2026 to 2031. Committed to sustainable aviation, Korean Air aims to continue fostering partnerships with customers, energy companies, and stakeholders to support the global adoption of SAF.
