The Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) is seeking to procure two assault craft for its special forces unit, Paskal. These assault craft will be stationed, one each, at the Lumut Naval Base in Perak and Sri Semporna in Sabah.
These vessels, referred to as “High End Military Water Craft” by the RMN, have sparked speculation regarding their design, with some suggesting they may draw inspiration from the Combatant Craft Assault (CCA) boats utilised by the US Navy SEAL. The CCA boats are purpose-built for special operations forces, facilitating insertion and extraction missions, as well as coastal patrol operations.
Despite this speculation, the allocated budget of approximately MYR 600,000 (equivalent to around USD 126,000) indicates that the RMN’s intention is not to acquire CCA or other types in the same category. Although specific figures have not been publicly disclosed, it is estimated that the cost of each air-transportable and air-droppable CCA exceeds USD 5 million.
