Malaysia’s DOSD Reveals Its New 4×4 Rapid Intervention Vehicle

Yulian Ardiansyah - : Dec 29, 2023 - : 9:41 pm

Malaysia’s Defence Special Operations Division (DOSD) recently revealed its new 4×4 assault vehicle during a visit by the chief of the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF), General TS Mohammad Ab Rahman to the special force’s headquarters at Sungai Besi, on Thursday (Dec. 28).

Also known as the Rapid Intervention Vehicle (RIV), the 4×4 assault vehicle seems to have taken a double-cabin Toyota Hilux as its development base. A ramp and two tactical ladders have been added to the all-black painted vehicle to give the assaulting troops an easily accessible entry point to houses, buildings, and parked airplanes. Furthermore, with all the doors of the base vehicle removed, the four-seated RIV is also equipped with armor plates to give frontal ballistic protection to its occupants.

While it has been known that the team also has an unspecified number of Toyota Hilux 4x4s in its inventory, no further details regarding the RIV have been revealed by the DOSD.

The Defence Special Operations Division is the successor of the country’s short-lived National Special Operations Force (NSOF) which was disbanded after only two years of activity following its formation in 2016. In 2020, the DOSD was officially established to function as Malaysia’s premier anti-terrorism security force.

DOSD membership consisted of select special forces personnel from three branches under MAF: 21 Gerup Gerak Khas (21 GGK) of the Malaysian Army, Pasukan Khas Laut (PASKAL) of the Malaysian Navy, and Pasukan Khas Udara (PASKAU) of the Malaysian Air Force.
