Mayman Aerospace is set to unveil a full-scale model of its high-speed Air Utility Vehicle (AUV), Razor, during SOF Week 2024 in Tampa, Florida, from May 6-10.
The company developed Razor derived from the Speeder, a dual-use, jet-powered, high-speed vertical take-off and landing (HS-VTOL) design. Sized to accommodate payloads of up to 1,000lb, the scalable prototypes are currently under construction for flight testing in Q3 of this year. The initial flight is expected to feature the 100lb-payload Razor P100, followed by the 500lb-payload Razor P500. A full-scale model of the Razor P100 will be showcased during SOF Week 2024.
Mayman Aerospace has secured over US$120 million in LOI commitments from European and Australian customers, alongside US$3.25 million from the US Department of Defense. This has led to the expansion of its engineering team in preparation for flight testing.
Aside from the Razor, the company has also introduced SkyField, an AI-driven, autonomous operating environment tailored for the new drone. SkyField facilitates immediate and effective operations alongside current hardware and software systems, while also streamlining future capability development.
“We are excited to further define and develop Razor and the SkyField operating system as we work to bring the aircraft’s extensive capabilities to the warfighter. Razor is just the first step in creating the SkyField flight mesh,” said David Mayman, CEO and founder of Mayman Aerospace.
“Alongside our Department of Defense colleagues, we are realizing the full capability unlocked by Razor’s unique design in combat scenarios, humanitarian and disaster relief operations, and training,” he added.
Easily transportable for mass launch operations on the field, from ships, or via air, Razor can be configured for various roles including contested logistics, precision attack with Hellfire or Brimstone missiles, low-cost cruise missile deployment, or equipped with advanced sensors for Intelligence, Surveillance, Target Acquisition, and Reconnaissance (ISTAR), electronic warfare, and suppression of enemy air defences (SEAD). Additionally, the aircraft can serve as a high-speed, low-cost target drone, requiring no specialized launch infrastructure for air-to-air and air defence training purposes.
