NATO Awards Mine Disposal Contract to Exail Robotics

Our Bureau - : Aug 28, 2024 - : 12:16 am

NATO has awarded Exail Robotics Belgium a EUR 60 million contract for the supply of underwater mine disposal vehicles. The contract includes the delivery of K-Ster C and K-Ster CT vehicles, along with associated equipment, to the NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA). These systems are primarily for the Belgian and Royal Netherlands navies.

The K-Ster units will be produced at Exail’s Oostende facility in Belgium, which was established in 2022. This factory is already engaged in producing drones for the Belgian and Royal Netherlands navies as part of their mine countermeasure (MCM) modernisation efforts.

Antony Penn, Chief Commercial Officer at Exail, commented, “We are very happy to continue our support of the Belgian and Royal Netherlands Navies and NATO allies with our advanced mine disposal technology. This new contract is a testament to our commitment to providing innovative and reliable solutions for MCM operations. With our purpose-built facilities in Oostende, we are already fully equipped to deliver these new systems.”

The K-Ster C is designed for effective mine neutralisation with its compact and lightweight build, advanced guidance system, and a powerful shaped charge. The K-Ster CT, a training version of the K-Ster C, features an inert warhead to allow for safe and realistic training exercises.

The K-Ster systems are part of the company’s Unmanned Mine Countermeasure Integrated System (UMIS), which also includes unmanned surface vessels, autonomous underwater vehicles, towed vehicles, and remotely operated vehicles for mine identification and disposal.
