North Sea Boats Unveils Progress on KSR for Indonesian Navy

Yulian Ardiansyah - : Nov 4, 2024 - : 6:15 pm

North Sea Boats, the global trade name for the privately owned Indonesian company PT Lundin Industry Invest, recently revealed construction progress on a new type of fast missile boat for the Indonesian Navy (TNI AL). Known as the Kapal Serbu Ringan (KSR) or "Light Strike Boat," the vessel's scale model was showcased during Indo Defence 2022. At the event, the company also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Norway’s Kongsberg to equip the boat with anti-ship missiles.

Previously designated as the "X-33 Light Strike Boat," a recent photo on the company’s official social media account displayed the completed hull of the KSR. While an exact launch date has not been announced, it is expected that the boat will be officially launched in the coming months once construction is complete.

With a length of 20 metres, a 4-metre beam, and a displacement of 33 tons, North Sea Boats designed the KSR to be powered by two 2,000 HP diesel engines driving a pair of waterjets. This setup will enable it to reach a maximum speed of around 50 knots and a cruising speed of up to 30 knots. The boat is projected to have a range of 990 km at a cruising speed of 9 knots.

Developed to meet the Indonesian Navy’s requirements for a fast strike boat with anti-ship missiles, the KSR will be armed with a pair of Naval Strike Missile (NSM) anti-ship missiles and equipped with a Remote-Controlled Weapon Station (RCWS) featuring what appears to be a 20 mm cannon in the official render.

According to the official specifications, the boat will also be capable of storing and operating both an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) and an Unmanned Surface Vehicle (USV) for surveillance and reconnaissance purposes.
