Passengers, Profit up – Cargo down

: Jul 31, 2013 - : 2:48 am

Preliminary June traffic figures from the Association of Asia Pacific Airlines (AAPA) indicate regional growth in passenger traffic with international revenue passenger kilometre (RPK) growing by 5.7%, but the air cargo market is still in the doldrums. "During the first half of the year [Asia Pacific saw] a 5.6% increase compared to last year. Air cargo markets, however, remain depressed, with Asian airlines reporting a 2.4% decline in freight traffic for the first six months of the year,’ said Andrew Herdman, AAPA Director General. In June, the region’s airlines carried a total of 18.3 million international passengers (7.1% growth); seat capacity grew 6.4%; and average load factor maintained at 79.6%.
