Philippines orders two more A109s from AgustaWestland (SINGAPORE AIRSHOW 2014 – DAY 1)

: Feb 12, 2014 - : 9:29 am

As part of the Philippine military’s gradual modernisation, the Philippine Navy (PN) has just ordered two further A109 Power maritime helicopters. The country earlier ordered three identical craft to perform maritime surveillance, security and search-and-rescue (SAR) missions. This batch of three has already been delivered to the PN, and the type is able to operate from both ship and shore.

The Philippine Air Force (PAF) ordered eight A109 types too last year.
Specific modifications to the A109 Power for maritime use include reinforced landing gear, deck mooring points, and corrosion prevention measures. The two newly ordered craft will be delivered later this year, according to AgustaWestland. Other regional military operators of the A109 include Malaysia and New Zealand.
