Photonis is displaying the latest technology in night vision and its latest equipment for police operations as it aims to strengthen its longstanding relationship with the Japanese defence forces. The company is also intent on further improving sensors and systems for night vision in close collaboration with the Japanese industry.
Photonis has been providing the Japanese defence forces with image intensifiers for more than a decade through various small programmes. But since 4G image intensifiers have been proposed, the company has been bagging bigger contracts, showing a shift in the Japanese market.
Photonis tubes are used in night vision goggles for the dismounted soldier, helicopter and fast-jet pilots, rifle sights and driver periscopes.
The 4G image intensifiers high performance is being considered as the standard versus the ITAR limited old Gen3 tubes. The newest development is the low weight, small size 16mm image intensifiers that allow for a 30 per cent smaller and lighter system.
The 4G image intensifier tubes meet the requirements of modern warfare at night to deliver end-users the highest possible performance in all field conditions.
According to the company, this technology offers excellent image quality and clear contrast in low light conditions as well as an ever-increasing performance in tactical missions by faster detection of targets.
Photonis 4G bandwidth is twice larger than Gen3 image intensifiers, collecting more photons in all operational conditions, and providing soldiers with the crucial tactical advantage of seeing 1100nm lasers target designator that no other image intensifier can detect, the company claimed.
The state-of-the-art image intensifier tube for military can be integrated into equipment of the world’s leading suppliers of optical systems. The 4G image intensifier tube is the standard in all major European Land Forces programmes, and also deployed by all NATO partners.
“Photonis continues to develop new features and improvements on the equipment capabilities in close cooperatio with OEMs and end−users in order to keep the advantage at night over any adversary. With the capabilities at hand in the Photonis 4G image intensifiers, and the R&D projects in progress, we will be able to meet the newest operational requirements of the Japanese defense forces in the years to come; allowing effective soldiers to operate safely,” the company said.
