The Piedmont region in Italy, home to major players in the aerospace industry as well as over 350 SMEs, showcased the regional aerospace excellence as well as the capabilities of companies in the region at the Show. The complete supply chain the companies in the region provides to major international players in the aerospace industry was highlighted over the course of the Show.
The region, which is known for the know-how, technical skills and high-level manufacturing of its SME, is also home to major companies such as Leonardo, GE Avio Aero, Thales Alenia Space, ALTEC, and Collins Aerospace. Aerospace in Piemonte records a total turnover of € 7 billion and employs over 22,000 people, and accounts for 20% of Italian exports in the sector.
Seventeen SMEs from Piedmont attended the Show, clustered together in the exhibition space organized by the Foreign Center for Internationalization (Ceipiemonte) as part of the integrated “Aerospace” supply chain project promoted by the Piedmont Region and co-financed by the 2000-2020 Development and Cohesion Plan, and the “Industrial Assets” project funded by the Piedmont Region and the Turin Chamber of Commerce. The event highlighted the latest generation products and technologies that the SMEs offer international clients, such as scientific instruments, mechanical components, solutions for the transport of fluids, optimization of the supply chain and ICT, assembly lines for integrated structures, engineering services, surface treatments, thermal insulation, wiring, design, engineering and simulation, electrical and electronic systems, aircraft assembly and maintenance.
The region will lay the foundation stone for the proposed City of Aerospace in the autumn. “In Piedmont, aerospace is a strategic sector, which has over 350 companies, 20,000 employees, a turnover of 7 billion, of which about 70 percent is destined for foreign markets,” said Albsteep Cirio, Region President. “We have large companies and SMEs that collaborate in a supply chain logic that will find further impetus with the creation of the City of Aerospace, where companies, start-ups, universities and research centers will work together to to combine manufacturing and innovation, research and production more and more in a sector in which Piedmont plays its game on a global level”.
On June 20, the Piedmont stand organized a workshop “Unleashing the Sky’s Potential: Aerospace Excellence, Innovative Trends, and Investment Opportunities in Piedmont.” Councilor for Internationalization of Piedmont Fabrizio Rich, Andrea Tronzano, Regional Councilor for Productive Activities, Turin Chamber of Commerce general secretary Guido Bolatto, Ceipiemonte president Dario Peirone, Aerospace District president Fulvia Quagliotti and representatives of Leonardo, GE Avio Aero , Thales Alenia Space, and Collins Aerospace attended. The workshop focused on the local skills of businesses and investment opportunities in the region.
