PTDI Delivers Second CN235 MSA To Malaysia

PT Dirgantara Indonesia (PTDI) delivered a CN235 MSA (Maritime Surveillance Aircraft) to the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) on Friday (Oct. 7). The plane with the M44-05 tail number is the second of three RMAF’s CN235 military transport aircraft converted to MSA under the U.S. Department of Defense’s Maritime Security Initiative (MSI) program.

“We express our deepest gratitude to the Royal Malaysian Air Force and the Malaysian Ministry of Defense for their trust in PTDI,” said Batara Silaban, PTDI’s Director of Production who officiated the plane’s departure. “I hope that with the delivery of this second converted aircraft, it can meet the current and future needs of TUDM operations, and this collaboration can benefit all parties,” he added.

Piloted by all-Malaysian crew members, the aircraft took off from PTDI’s facility at Husein Sastranegara International Airport, Bandung, West Java at 10:40 a.m. (UTC+7). It headed directly to RMAF Kuching Air Base at Sarawak, East Malaysia, about 982 km North Northwest of Bandung, and is projected to arrive at its destination at around 2 p.m. Malaysia Time (UTC+8).

Aside from performing a Service-Life Extension Program (SLEP) on each of these three aircraft, PTDI also installed a Merlin maritime surveillance system on each of them. Developed by an Oregon-based company Integrated Surveillance and Defense, Inc (ISD), the system consists of a Forward-Looking Infra-Red (FLIR) module, a surveillance radar contained in a belly radome, and an automatic identification and tracking system to provide the RMAF’s CN-235 MSA with Intelligence, Surveillance, And Reconnaissance (ISR) capability.

Previously in June 2022, PTDI has already delivered the first RMAF’s CN235 MSA. The third aircraft is currently in its later stage of the conversion process and is expected to be delivered by the end of this year.
