Rafael’s Sea Breaker 5th Gen Missile Makes ADAS Debut

Our Bureau - : Sep 26, 2024 - : 12:50 am

Rafael Advanced Defence Systems (Rafael) is presenting its Sea Breaker, 5th generation, autonomous maritime and land-based long-range missile system for the first time at the ongoing ADAS. The new generation Anti-Ship Missile (AShM) integrates several of the Israeli firm’s most advanced technologies, delivering pinpoint strikes from stand-off ranges of up to 300 km and can neutralize a frigate-sized ship with a single hit. The Sea Breaker was displayed at the Singapore airshow this February and ADAS is only the second show in the region where Sea Breaker has been displayed.

Rafael’s wide range of proven precision-guided solutions, advanced all-weather IIR seeker, electro-optics, computer vision, Artificial Intelligence, and decision-making capabilities have all been made use of in the development of the Sea Breaker AShM. This affords the missile with sea-skimming and terrain-following, low-level flight capability and includes scene-matching algorithms for Automatic Target Recognition as well as man-in-the-loop backup and Very Low Observables (VLO) of the missile.
With modern warships featuring advanced countermeasures, including modern anti-air and Close-In-Weapon-Systems (CIWS), Sea Breaker relies on late detection enabled by its passive seeker and approaches the target with high-‘G’ evasive maneouvers and its saturation salvo attack capability, further enhances the missile’s penetration against well-defended targets.

It can be used to engage stationary or moving targets in A2/AD arenas, littoral or blue waters, and all-weather conditions and is resilient to Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS)-denied arenas, Electronic Warfare (EW), and decoys. The weapon system discriminates between hostile targets and non-combatants and decoys and allows operator intervention at any stage.

The Sea Breaker features a highly effective warhead, which when combined with selective and accurate aim point, can assure the desired damage to the target (from neutralization to destruction) with reduced risk to uninvolved parties in close proximity. This allows the Sea Breaker missile to be used effectively, even in cases of with strict Rules of Engagement (ROE).
