Raytheon Wins US$1.5bn Deal from UAE

The UAE Armed Forces awarded US$1.9 billion in contracts on the second day of IDEX, with US-based Raytheon getting a US$1.55 billion deal to supply Patriot missile systems to its air force.

The Armed Forces, which signed 24 contracts in total, awarded six international companies deals totaling US$1.60 billion, General Mohammed Al Hassani, Idex spokesman said.

Local companies won contracts worth USD408 million, he added.

The agreement was signed at the IDEX military exhibition in Abu Dhabi and followed the award on Sunday of a US$354 million contract to Raytheon to supply the UAE with patriot missiles.

A US$272 million contract was also signed with the Austrian company Sawi Electronic for the rehabilitation and upgrading of mines for the UAE Army.

The UAE has signed a total of US$3.2 billion in contracts since the IDEX exhibition started on Sunday.
