Rheinmetall AG, a Düsseldorf-based technology company, has announced a collaboration with Hologate, a specialist in extended reality (XR) solutions. The partnership focuses on developing advanced simulation technologies to address the evolving requirements of military training systems. By combining Rheinmetall’s experience in military systems with Hologate’s expertise in XR technology, the collaboration aims to produce innovative and effective solutions for modern military training.
The first outcome of this cooperation is a virtual reality (VR) driving simulator designed for training military drivers. Hanno Tabeling, Head of System Technology for Driving Simulation at Rheinmetall, explained, “This partnership is an important step for Rheinmetall in further expanding our portfolio of VR/XR training and simulation solutions. With Hologate’s state-of-the-art software, we will be able to offer our customers even more realistic and flexible training options.”
Hologate’s technology has been utilised in projects for the German armed forces and police, where XR-based systems meet stringent training standards. Its HGXR SIM platform features an XR motion simulator capable of supporting multiple applications, including helicopter, truck, and boat simulations. The system’s open architecture allows users to switch between vehicle models quickly, improving efficiency and reducing costs. Advanced motion tracking minimises latency and replicates G-forces of up to 2g, providing a highly realistic training environment.
Leif Petersen, CEO of Hologate, emphasised the potential of the collaboration, stating, “By combining our expertise in XR technologies with Rheinmetall’s extensive know-how, we can develop innovative simulation solutions that set new standards.”
The partnership reflects a shared effort to optimise military training by leveraging advanced technologies. Both companies aim to create solutions that are adaptable to current and future challenges, offering tailored options for military drivers and other personnel worldwide.
Rheinmetall AG, founded in 1889, is a major supplier of defence systems and equipment, with operations across 174 locations and a workforce of approximately 30,000.
