At the Airshow China exhibition in Zhuhai, the Russian Helicopters holding company, a part of Rostec State Corporation, is showcasing the Ka-32A11BC multi-purpose helicopter. This versatile rotorcraft is suitable for a variety of applications, including firefighting, search and rescue operations, medical services, and oil spill response. It is currently in active service with several Chinese airlines. A full-scale model of the Ka-32A11BC, presented in its firefighting configuration, is featured at the event. The aircraft model displayed is operated by one of the Chinese helicopter operators. Currently, multiple Ka-32A11BC helicopters are in use across China.
Representatives from Rostec highlighted that Russian-made helicopters are competitive on the global market, noting the widespread use of Mi-8/17, Ka-32, and Mi-26 helicopters in China. Russian helicopters account for over 30% of the twin-engine helicopter market in China. The Ka-32A11BC, in particular, has become a preferred model for firefighting and other emergency operations. Rostec also mentioned that, upon customer request, the Ka-32A11BC can be upgraded to the Ka-32A11M standard, which involves the installation of new engines, an auxiliary power unit, and advanced avionics. These upgrades improve the aircraft's overall capabilities and efficiency. Additionally, the Ka-32A11BC can be fitted with the new Russian SP-32 fire extinguishing system, which is designed to operate in subzero temperatures.
The Ka-32 series has been in operation in China since 2009. The Ka-32A11BC is valued for its reliability, ease of maintenance, and cost-effectiveness compared to its competitors. In its firefighting role, the helicopter is equipped with a 5-ton water discharge system and a fire extinguishing system that allows it to fight fires in high-rise buildings. The coaxial-rotor design of the Ka-32A11BC also provides it with excellent manoeuvrability.
The upgraded Ka-32A11M features new VK-2500PS-02 engines, an advanced "glass cockpit," and updated onboard equipment, making the aircraft more capable in emergency rescues, high-altitude operations, and firefighting in both mountainous and urban environments. It is also equipped with night vision systems for improved night-time operations. These helicopters can support fire safety on ships and conduct emergency rescues at sea, far from land.
The Ka-32 helicopters can be equipped with the latest SP-32 fire extinguishing system, which can take in 4 tons of water in just minutes. This system can efficiently adjust the water flow by modifying the angles of its shutters and is capable of operating at temperatures as low as -20°C, thanks to its electric heating capabilities.
