Indian defence firm, Sagar Defence Engineering and Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to develop autonomous weaponized boat swarms for the Indian Navy.
Captain Nikunj Parashar, Managing Director and founder Sagar Defence Engineering said, “Our goal of turning India into a significant global manufacturing hub within the next 25 years has come a long way. We are excited to join hands with Israel Aerospace Industries for the Indian Navy’s iDEX-DIO (DISC 7) SPRINT initiative to showcase our technology and capabilities regarding autonomous weaponized boat swarms.”
The MoU was signed to collaborate and develop Indian design developed and manufactured (IDDM) for India and the global market at large by October 2023.
The partnership is expected to achieve a business that would amount to over 400cr for the company.
In January 2023, Sagar Defence Engineering had bagged a navy contract for their 50th SPRINT contract for autonomous weaponized boat swarms for the Indian Navy in an aim to strengthen maritime security in India.
This was one of 75 challenges the Indian Navy had presented in 2022.
