Saudia Named Most Improved Airline at 2024 Skytrax Awards

Saudia, Saudi Arabia’s national carrier, has been honoured as ‘The World’s Most Improved Airline’ and has topped the ranking for Best Economy Class Airline Catering at the 2024 Skytrax World Airline Awards.

The awards, hosted by the global air transport rating organisation Skytrax, are based on an extensive customer satisfaction survey involving over 375 airlines.

“These awards reaffirm Saudia’s dedication to excellence and our commitment to achieving the objectives of the National Strategy for Transport and Logistics Services. By adhering to the highest quality standards in the aviation industry, we are continuously prioritising service innovation, by enhancing the guest experience, and optimising operational efficiency,” said Ibrahim Al-Omar, Director General of Saudia Group.

“This unwavering dedication to excellence has positioned Saudia as a leading global connector, bridging the world to the Kingdom to serve a wide range of sectors including business, tourism, entertainment, sports, Hajj, and Umrah,” he added.

“We congratulate Saudia on this fabulous achievement and this remarkable success. To be recognised for the change and quality improvement is testament to the hard work by the management and staff at Saudia and this recognition should be a source of pride,” said Edward Plaisted, CEO of Skytrax.

Saudia’s steady ascent in the rankings is notable, with its position improving from 82nd in 2017 to 20th in 2024. This marks the third time Saudia has received the ‘Most Improved Airline’ title.

Central to Saudia’s success is the ‘SHINE’ transformation programme, which focuses on enhancing the guest experience, operational efficiency, and service offerings. This initiative has seen Saudia ranked among the top 10 airlines globally for On-Time Performance (OTP) throughout 2023, maintaining this position for six months. In May 2024, Saudia achieved top-five status for arrival OTP and first globally for departure OTP.

Looking ahead, Saudia aims to maintain its upward trajectory with plans to acquire 154 new aircraft from Boeing and Airbus, and significant upgrades to guest cabins, including high-speed in-flight internet and advanced entertainment screens.
