SEA Eyeing SE Asia Market for Ancilia High-Performance Trainable Decoy Launcher System

Our Bureau - : Nov 7, 2023 - : 5:46 pm

SEA, the UK ship and fleet protection specialist is showcasing Ancilia, a high-performance trainable decoy launcher system to protect surface platforms from increasingly advanced missiles and torpedoes, at the ongoing Defense & Security 2023. Richard Flitton, Managing Director at SEA, said: “We are proud to be bringing our advanced maritime countermeasure technology to Thailand and the ASEAN region. With the speed and sophistication of missiles increasing and the window a surface platform has to respond becoming smaller, navies require the ability to rapidly and accurately deliver decoys that protect themselves against threats such as hypersonic and ballistic missiles. We look forward to showcasing this to our ASEAN partners and further developing our strong relationships with them.”

The launch of Ancilia follows SEA’s growing footprint in the Southeast Asia and Indo-Pacific regions that has seen it partner with the Philippine Navy and the New Zealand Navy as well as prime Australian contractors. SEA was also recently awarded a contract to supply its innovative anti-submarine warfare (ASW) system, KraitSense for a South-East Asian Navy’s new Offshore Patrol Vessel (OPV) programme to enable smaller, non-specialist platforms like OPVs to have advanced ASW capabilities.

Ancilia is a highly modular and flexible maritime countermeasures solution delivering effective and rapid protection against modern dynamic threats, such as hypersonic and ballistic missiles. A step-change in decoy launcher technology from traditional fixed solutions, Ancilia’s trainable base, developed by fellow Cohort Group company Chess Dynamics, removes the need to manoeuvre the vessel. Its relatively compact size enables it to be fitted to a wide range of maritime platforms. Drawing upon SEA’s Combat System expertise, Ancilia uses modern electronics, mechanical systems and software, and requires a minimal deck footprint in comparison to other decoy systems.

The system is capable of rapid movement and offering support for a multitude of surface and subsurface countermeasure effectors and can counter a wide range of threats quickly and effectively. With a decoy-agnostic open architecture, Ancilia can launch any standard 130mm NATO decoy among other calibres of effectors. It can be retrofitted onto existing platforms and integrated with existing Combat Management Systems (CMS) as well as third-party Electronic Support Systems (ESM).
