Naval Systems Tech: SEA Ties Up with Japan’s Cornes

Our Bureau - : Mar 17, 2023 - : 3:48 am

UK defence technology company SEA has entered into a strategic partnership with Japan’s Cornes Technologies to provide the Japanese naval industry with access to the very latest innovative defence technology in the maritime domain, including the torpedo launcher system.

The partnership, signed at DSEI Japan, will see SEA’s leading edge technology solutions, which have been adopted by defence organisations across the world, marketed exclusively in Japan by Cornes Technologies as an authorised distributor.

SEA develops and delivers technology that is engineered to protect. The new partnership will see the Japanese maritime sector benefit from SEA’s world-leading low-profile and agile Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) solutions, which are designed for smaller platforms such as Offshore Patrol Vessels and uncrewed autonomous vessels.

The partnership will also allow SEA to introduce its torpedo launcher system, the in-service launcher of choice of the UK Royal Navy and a number of navies in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) region, to the Japanese market.

David Hinds, Vice President of Strategic Accounts at SEA, said: “We strongly believe that navies across the world should have access to the very best equipment and technologies, and we recognise our part in ensuring allied nations such as Japan, have access to innovative maritime systems for their ongoing security. Our capabilities, such as our small form-factor anti-submarine warfare solutions and weapon independent torpedo launcher systems are designed to ensure users have flexibility and remain operational within some of the most complex maritime environments. This partnership will be pivotal in providing the Japanese naval industry with the responsive systems needed to meet ever-changing surface and subsurface threats.”

Cornes Technologies is a leading importer and distributor of high-tech products and technologies to the Japanese government.

Nishioka Kazuhiko, Director of Cornes Technologies Limited, said: “SEA offers leading and reliable technology solutions for the defence industry across the globe, and we are delighted to be working alongside SEA to support the delivery of these systems into the Japanese defence market.”
