Shield AI Plans V-BAT Teaming Demonstration in Region This Year

Our Bureau - : Mar 4, 2024 - : 8:40 pm

U.S.-based Shield AI is highlighting the autonomous teaming capabilities of its V-BAT unmanned Vertical Take-off and Landing (VTOL) at the Show.

“We hope to have new and continuing conversations with military and government leaders in the region who are interested in learning what our V-BAT UAS and V-BAT Teams bring to the fight, and how they can integrate them into their force structures,” says Retired Vice Admiral Bob Harward, Shield AI Executive Vice President. “We are showcasing that AI Pilots are operational today, redefining human operator roles and propelling us into a new era of military operations. Last year, we demonstrated V-BAT teaming for the first time, proving that intelligent, affordable mass is here! We look forward to demonstrating this capability in the region in 2024.”

“This is not some pre-scripted drone light show,” adds a company official. “It’s fully autonomous, read and react, complex mission execution from take-off to landing. V-BAT Teams is powered by Hivemind, the world’s best AI pilot and the most strategic defense tech of our generation. AI pilots enable the concept of intelligent teaming – the ability to autonomously read and react to each other, adversaries, and the environment to accomplish the mission. And every mission makes them better. Like self-driving cars, when one V-BAT flies, the fleet learns.”

Shield AI successfully completed an autonomous teaming live flight demonstration featuring three V-BATs in early 2023. The accomplishment was the final milestone of the U.S. Air Force AFWERX autonomy effort under their Strategic Funding Increase (STRATFI) program and in collaboration with the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) Sensors Directorate. The company plans to demonstrate the capability in the region in 2024 and to deliver V-BAT teams next year.
