ST Engineering, KPE to Produce Armoured Vehicles in Kazakhstan

Our Bureau - : Dec 7, 2024 - : 1:01 am

ST Engineering has announced a strategic agreement with Kazakhstan Paramount Engineering (KPE) to establish production capabilities for a new 8×8 amphibious multi-purpose armoured vehicle in Kazakhstan.

The collaboration involves engineering and technical support from ST Engineering for designing and producing the vehicle. The design will be based on ST Engineering’s Terrex Infantry Fighting Vehicle, which is noted for its ability to operate in open water conditions.

“This marks a breakthrough for our Land Systems business in terms of securing its first significant international land platform contract in recent years, as well as entry into a new market in Central Asia,” said Lim Kok Ann, President of ST Engineering’s Land Systems business. “We look forward to a successful collaboration with KPE and are confident that the new platform will meet the operational needs of its users.”

KPE Chairman Aibek Baryssov highlighted the company’s production capabilities and its readiness to address the specific needs of Kazakhstan’s Armed Forces. “KPE’s production capabilities stand at 500 units of various types of armoured vehicles per year per shift, and our extensive experience in deep localisation, scientific research, and operating armoured vehicles in Kazakhstan’s unique geographic conditions, together with ST Engineering, will enable us to fully meet the needs of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Kazakhstan for amphibious 8×8 vehicles,” he said. He also noted plans for further collaboration on additional projects.

Production of the new vehicles is scheduled to begin in 2025 at KPE’s facility in Kazakhstan.

ST Engineering emphasised the role of the partnership in supporting localisation and strengthening supply chains in the defence sector. The agreement aligns with its broader strategy of growth through in-country operations and licensing with international partners.

The company also noted its long history of military technology development, including advancements in battlefield mobility, personnel protection, and integrated defence platform solutions. These include digitalised vehicles, unmanned ground vehicles, and hybrid electric drive systems.
