Survitec, a provider of critical safety and survival solutions, has secured a significant contract to equip five Type 31 Frigates under construction by Babcock for the Royal Navy with its Survival Technology.

According to the terms of the agreement, Survitec will produce and deliver four 100-person and four 25-person liferafts for each vessel. These liferafts undergo rigorous testing to meet the highest safety and performance standards. Additionally, the contract includes the provision of six scramble nets and ladders for each frigate.

This contract with Babcock is notable for its long-term implications, as the construction of these five vessels is anticipated to continue until 2028. The Type 31 Frigates are versatile ships intended to enhance the UK’s maritime defence capabilities, complementing existing destroyers and aircraft carriers. The launch of the first vessel this year signifies a significant milestone in the UK’s naval modernization efforts.

Dom Cartwright, Executive Managing Director of Aerospace and Defense at Survitec, commented, “This contract underscores the UK Government’s strategic commitment to strengthening the nation’s defence sector while enhancing its naval forces’ safety and operational efficiency.”

Cartwright further stated, “Survitec’s pivotal involvement in the Type 31 Frigate programme highlights our extensive technical and manufacturing experience spanning over 160 years, reaffirming our dedication to innovation and excellence in safeguarding naval operations and frontline personnel,”

Survitec will also offer comprehensive aftermarket solutions, including servicing and maintenance, utilizing its extensive service network across key ports worldwide.

Martin Beagan, Regional Head of UK Sales – Aerospace and Defense at Survitec, expressed pride in Babcock’s decision to select Survitec for this vital project. He emphasized that the inclusion of Survitec’s Survival Technology on the Type 31 frigates demonstrates the British partners’ confidence in the reliability and adaptability of the company’s solutions.

An important aspect of the Type 31 program is to provide a design capable of attracting a range of export orders, thereby supporting the UK economy and employment opportunities.

Beagan emphasized, “This contract further strengthens our resolve to expand our reach internationally, showcasing the excellence of our Survival Technology worldwide.”
