Sweden Selects Embraer C-390 Millennium Aircraft

Our Bureau - : Nov 11, 2024 - : 11:18 pm

Sweden has announced the selection of the Embraer C-390 Millennium as its new tactical transport aircraft. This decision, made by the Swedish Ministry of Defence, marks the first acquisition of the C-390 in Northern Europe, reflecting Sweden’s continued efforts to enhance its defence capabilities.

“Embraer is honored with this selection by Sweden. After several European NATO countries selected the C-390, this decision is a testimony that this multi-mission aircraft represents a tremendous operational capability upgrade compared to previous generation tactical transport aircraft,” said Bosco Da Costa Junior, President & CEO of Embraer se & Security. “The aircraft is being recognized, gradually, by the most advanced Air Forces in the world such as the Swedish Air Force. This selection encourages us to offer our customers the aircraft they need to perform their most demanding missions with unparalleled versatility, reliability, and performance.”

Embraer and Sweden have a long-standing partnership, which is expected to deepen with the C-390 acquisition. The company is committed to supporting the Swedish Armed Forces to meet the specific requirements of their procurement process, marking a significant step in Brazil-Sweden relations.

Sweden’s decision aligns with a broader trend among European NATO countries acknowledging the C-390’s effectiveness in addressing current and future defence needs. Sweden joins five other European nations—Austria, Czech Republic, Hungary, Netherlands, and Portugal—who have also selected the aircraft. This acquisition is expected to strengthen Sweden’s national defence and improve interoperability with NATO allies, while also benefiting from the shared training, support, and logistical resources available within Europe.

The C-390 has also been ordered by Brazil and South Korea. Since its entry into service with the Brazilian Air Force in 2019, the aircraft has accumulated over 15,000 flight hours, achieving a mission capability rate of 93% and completing missions with a success rate exceeding 99%.
