Thailand’s Defence Technology Institute (DTI) is showcasing a wide range of systems at the ongoing show, which reflect its growing capability in handling increasingly complex programmes. One area where Thailand is rapidly accelerating its capabilities is in the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) domain, where DTI is at the forefront.
Speaking to Daily News, a DTI official said unmanned technology is a significant focal point for DTI. “Our goal is to establish a self-sustaining ecosystem for unmanned vehicles in Thailand, with a contemporary focus on two major arms, unmanned aerial systems (UAS) and explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) robots. DTI is also undertaking a research and development project for virtual combat vehicle training aids (Phase 2)
DTI also entered into various memoranda of understanding (MOU) at the show. DTI together with Asperiq AG signed a MOU on cooperation in research and development of cyber technology. DTI entered into an MOU on Cooperation in Research and Development of Cyber Security between and Cyber Elite Co., Ltd. Thailand’s STTP together with ST Engineering Land Systems Ltd also entered into an additional memorandum attached to the Memorandum of Understanding on Defense Industry Cooperation.
DTI has already established the capability to develop a wide range of UAVs, including multi-rotor, fixed-wing and vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) systems covering a size spectrum from mini-to medium sized UAVs. These include UAVs such as the D-Eyes 01, 02, 03 and FUVEC drones along with the larger DP-20A, being developed with Thailand based Aero Technology Industry Limited (ATIL). DTI is collaborating with the Mahanakom University of Technology for the development of the D-Empire V.4 and with the Prince of Songkia University for the development of the Noonar V.4. small EOD robots which are completely designed and built in Thailand. These robots have received certification from the Thai Ministry of Defence for meeting military standards. Currently DTI is proceeding with tasks related to commencing production of both EOD robots to meet Thai military requirements.
