The inscrutable Chinese (SINGAPORE AIRSHOW 2014 – DAY 1)

: Feb 12, 2014 - : 9:30 am

The Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC) has a sizeable presence at the show. Although it did not bring any aircraft, it is displaying plenty of scale models representing products from both its commercial and military sectors. When AVIC officials were questioned on their product range and their presence in Singapore, Asian Defence & Diplomacy was politely referred to the company’s information brochures. “You can gain data there,” an official said.

Consequently, it is difficult to know what China is hoping to achieve at the show, although its line-up includes the Z-9 helicopter, L-15 trainer, K-8 trainer, Wing Loong 1 unmanned combat air vehicle (UCAV) and JF-17.
The WMD-7 targeting pod, which offers an infrared and TV camera range of 20km and 22km respectively, was also being promoted.
