Vietnam Concludes SAT for L-39NG Trainer Aircraft

Vietnam has successfully concluded the Site Acceptance Test (SAT) for its new L-39NG trainer aircraft, marking the final step in the aircraft handover process. The Vietnamese Air Force, the first customer for this model, has now taken delivery of six aircraft, assembled and tested at their location.

The SAT process, which took place at the customer’s site, was overseen by a team of around ten specialists from Aero Vodochody and Omnipol, Aero’s shareholder.

“The final step of the handover of the aircraft, called SAT, takes place directly at the customer’s site and is directed by a joint team of around ten specialists from Aero and Omnipol,” said Victor Sotona, CEO and Chairman of Aero.

“I am extremely pleased that the final assembly and flight of the six L-39NGs went well, and our aircraft can now fully serve as a training platform for fighter pilots as well as a tactical platform fulfilling a wide range of missions for the Vietnamese Air Force,” he added.

The handover process of the L-39NG aircraft involves several stages, beginning with the Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) conducted at Aero’s facility, where the aircraft undergoes thorough testing. Once the FAT is completed, the aircraft are transported to the customer’s site for the SAT, which ensures the aircraft is correctly installed, configured, and ready for operation.

Along with the delivery of the aircraft, Vietnam received a comprehensive training package, which includes theoretical and practical training materials, a simulation training system, and detailed manuals for both pilots and mechanics. The manuals are extensive, with tens of thousands of pages, and provide detailed guidance on aircraft operation, flight manoeuvres, and maintenance procedures.

The production of the L-39NG involves approximately 400 supplier companies, with around 65% based in the Czech Republic. The assembly of each aircraft requires around 14,000 parts, 17,500 rivets, and 31,000 hours of labour.

The L-39NG, equipped with modern avionics and a fuel-efficient jet engine, is designed to meet the training requirements for future pilots of fourth and fifth-generation aircraft, such as the F-16 and F-35. The aircraft is also capable of performing light combat and reconnaissance missions. Vietnam’s contract for 12 L-39NGs, signed in 2021 with Omnipol, marked the first order for this new aircraft model.
