On 11 February, the opening day of Singapore Air Show, Weststar Aviation Services inked a deal to buy ten AgustaWestland AW139 helicopters. Weststar is based in Malaysia and is a major provider of helicopters to oil and gas operators in the country, plus it is seeking to expand its presence internationally.
Vincenzo Alaimo, managing director of AgustaWestland Malaysia, commented, “Weststar’s confirmation of the AW139 as its leading type further reaffirms how this outstanding helicopter is the benchmark by major operators who strive for the best performance and the highest safety standards.”
The AW139 already constitutes the majority of Weststar’s fleet, so this new contract confirms the desirability and suitability of the type. Weststar now operates 34 AW139s. Furthermore, the company was the first in the world to avail itself of the commonality offered by the AW139/AW169/AW189 new-generation family.
