Xen Aviation, a new regional airline based in Georgetown, Guyana, has finalised the purchase of its first Britten-Norman Islander aircraft, a BN2T-4S model with a turbine engine. This aircraft will be central to Xen Aviation’s plans to improve regional connectivity through commuter services across Guyana.

The BN2T-4S, a turboprop variant of the Islander, marks a significant addition to Guyana’s aviation sector as the first of its type to operate in the country. Compared to the piston-engine version, this model provides 30% more interior space and a higher Maximum Take-Off Weight of up to 8,925 lbs (4,048 kg). It is powered by twin Rolls-Royce 250 B17F engines, delivering a range of 1,006 nautical miles (1,863 km) and an endurance of up to eight hours, enabling operations on short, rugged airstrips.

With seating for up to 12 passengers, the BN2T-4S will carry a maximum of 10 passengers per UK Type Certification, although local regulations in Guyana may affect final passenger capacity. Britten-Norman’s Islanders come equipped with an advanced Garmin glass cockpit and full electronic engine instrumentation, supporting efficient flight and maintenance operations.

In alignment with Britten-Norman’s ‘Green Futures’ initiative, future Islander aircraft will be compatible with Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). The BN2T-4S has received Type Acceptance from the Guyana Civil Aviation Authority, adding to its certification in the UK, EU, and the US.

Xen Aviation’s Ronaldo Alphonso noted, “We believe this variant of the Islander is a perfect fit for our mission to introduce superior safety, comfort and choice to the Guyana aviation market, targeting everyday commuters, government and international business operators, all at a competitive price.”

Britten-Norman’s Chief Executive, William Hynett, stated, “We are delighted to confirm this order with Xen Aviation & Services Inc., marking a significant milestone as the first BN2T-4S Islander to be used for commuter services in Guyana. The BN2T-4S is the largest and most powerful variant in the Islander range, offering exceptional load-carrying capacity while maintaining our well renowned STOL performance. I am excited to see this aircraft thrive in its new role with Xen Aviation, providing essential services to the people of Guyana.”
