Mahindra Telephonics Integrated Systems, a joint venture involving Mahindra Defense Systems and Telephonics Corporation,  will supply 11 Airport Surveillance Radars with Monopulse Secondary Surveillance Radar for the Indian Navy and the Indian Coast Guard.

The US$45 million deal, signed earlier this month,is expected to boost the maritime protection capabilities of the navy and coast guard. Mahindra Telephonics makes electronic surveillance and communication systems for the Indian aerospace and defence market.

The procurement will be made under the ‘Buy and Make’ category of the defence procurement procedures. “The installation of these radars will increase the air domain awareness around airfields and enhance safety and efficiency in flying operations of Indian Navy and Indian Coast Guard,” a defence department statement said.

“This would enable absorption of technology, skill development and indigenous manufacture, boosting employment opportunities,” the statement added.
